Printer names on RDP

Karishma Updated by Karishma

When using a printer on the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), a new session number is added to the printer name every time you log on. For example, were a printer to be called “My Printer”, the RDP could name it “My Printer 1”, and then the following session name it “My Printer 2”. This caused problems when printing – the unique identifier would change every time you log back onto an RDP and thus the default printer would no longer match the printer name.

To prevent this from happening, Payroll now has the option to ignore these unique identifiers locally, which will help Payroll to remember your default printer. To turn this setting on, navigate to Other in the Payroll toolbar, and then click on Local preferences:

This will open the Local preferences window. Navigate to the Printing tab (keyboard shortcut Alt+P), where you will see a new option: Ignore redirection in printer name.

Tick this checkbox to ignore the unique RDP identifier when finding a printer.
